Billy Morgan raised the bar for British snowboarding when, on the 27th October 2012, he won the Relentless Freeze Snowboard Big Air Competition. The London competition featured an incredible line up, which included the Helgason brothers, Stale Sandbech and Marko Grilc. Not bad for a kid from the English sea-side.
He came to prominence a year before this, when, in 2011, he became the first person to land a Triple Backside Rodeo Flip in snowboard history. The video of this trip was played repeatedly throughout snowboard circles and placed him up with many of the best boarders in the scene. His focus, however, is set firmly on making the Great Britain team for Sochi 2014.
Billy is something of a youtube star. The video of him completing the first ever Triple Rodeo in Colorado went viral and has been viewed almost a million times. He followed this feat up by becoming the first Briton to nail the Backside Triple Cork 1440.
Born on England's occasionally sunny South coast, snowboarding didn't seem the natural outlet for Morgan. Billy was a late starter in a sport dominated by prodigies. Aged 17 he went on a school trip to an artificial slope his friend convinced him to give snowboarding a go, it was love at first sight. Having already shown talent at skateboarding, he swapped concrete for snow and hasn't looked back.
