Jeremy Jones is one of the elder statesmen of Snowboarding and one of the godfathers of freeriding. Jones has been riding at the highest level in three different decades and is one of the sports biggest figures. Jones is renowned for his freeriding. He is regarded as a pioneer of big mountain riding and was one of the first pros to spend time exploring and riding Alaska. He frequently rides with other alpinists such as Xavier de le Rue and Mads Jonsson and his crisp riding can be seen in seminal moves such as The Art of Flight. Jones is currently two thirds of the way through producing his own trilogy of documentaries. Jones is a committed environmentalist and in 2007 he established Protect Our Winters which aims to reduce the impact the snowsports industry has on the environment. As a result he doesn't use helicopters or lifts, instead he hikes up the mountains he rides. His status was recognised in 2012 when National Geographic nominated him for their Adventurer of the Year prize for his 'remarkable achievements in exploration, conservation, humanitarianism, and adventure sports.' Jones splits his time between riding, his young family and now running his own snowboard company, the imaginatively named Jones Snowboards. The term legend is often too easily used but for Jones it is fitting. He's a man that helped develop the sport and represent it to the world in a way that few others have.
