Mexican-American Paul ‘P-Rod’ Rodriguez is a multiple X Games champion, winning his first gold medal in 2004 in the Street competition. He repeated the feat in the 2005, 2009 and 2012 Street competitions and also won silver medals in 2008 in Los Angeles and 2013 in Barcelona and Munich. He has also performed well on the Dew Tour, finishing second in the Street competition in 2011, and he took the top spot at the first Maloof Money Cup in 2008. Away from contests, he was the first skateboarder to be endorsed as an official Nike Athlete, and was the first skateboarder and the first Mexican-American to get a Nike signature shoe. He also appeared in both the Tony Hawk and EA Skate video games. Son of famous comedian and actor Paul Rodriguez, Paul Jr. didn’t buy his first skateboard until the age of 12. However, he soon made up for lost time - his passion for skating and filming with his friends led to his breakout part in Logic 6 in 2000, Street Cinema in 2001 and landed him Rookie of the Year in 2002 for his part in Transworld’s video production In Bloom. Since turning pro in 2002, P-Rod’s consistency, effortless style and persistence on the board have won him many competitions and admirers. His says his favourite things to skate are ‘ledges, rails, and stairs’ and names Tom Penny, Eric Koston and Andrew Reynolds as the professional skateboarders who he considers to have had most influence on his career.
