DANIEL MÖSL AND OSCAR SCHERLIN WIN gloryfy BASTARDS 2013
For everyone who's into heavy snowboard- and freeski-action, the fourth edition of gloryfy BASTARDS unbreakable big air battle presented by Raiffeisen Club downtown Gerlos in the Zillertal Arena was a must-see and so once again the idyllic snowcovered village transformed into the freestyle-world's centre. Daniel Mösl from Austria dominated the snowboard finals and Oscar Scherlin from Sweden took home the victory in the freeski competition.
Gerlos, 18 January 2013 -- With perfectly stomped tricks like a huge Double Backflip Indy (technical Run), a massive Cab 540 Underflip Melon Nosbone (style Run) and a nearly stomped triple backflip (rider's choice run) which nearly broke his nose (his face's, not his board's) 24-year old Austrian Daniel Mösl won the breathtaking finals and took home the EUR 4,000 prize purse in the snowboard-category. Second and third place went to Alessandro Boyens from Germany and Niko Länsio from Finland.
In the freeski-category Oscar Scherlin from Sweden had his bag of tricks on lock and grabed the winner's cheque and top podium spot with a Switch 1080 Tail (technical run) and a Cork 540 Tail (style run). Closely followed by Flo Geyer from Germany and Viktor Moosmann from Austria, which came in second and third.
After slight snowfall in the morning, Gerlos presented itself from its best side with sunshine in the afternoon. 32 riders from eight nations competed for starting slots for the semi-finals -- amongst them big names like Oscar Scherlin (Sweden), Flo Geyer (Germany), Andri Ambühl (Switzerland) or Spencer Kraimes (USA) in the freeski category and Peter König (Austria), Marius Otterstad (Norway), Patrick Cinca (Germany), Kim Rune Hansen (Norway) or Janne Lipsanen (Finland) in the snowboard category.
In the floodlit final in the evening the best eight riders of each category were batteling it out for the EUR 11,000,- prize purse. The huge setup -- built from 25,000 cubicmeters of snow -- in the middle of the town, was surrounded by a 3,500 strong crowd. They witnessed an impressive wide range of techy and stylish tricks with massive airtime and the hyped up crowd was cheering for every rider as if their life was at stake.
The already motivated crowd, hyped up by the night's hosts Martin Misof and Chris Cab, went on to take over the four afterparties taking place in different clubs downtown Gerlos. DJs like the Wax Wreckaz, Judge Reini or Invasion Sound tore off the roofs with heavy bass and bouncing beats all night -- a worthy closing for an action-packed day!
