Steven van Broeckhoven (B-72) from Belgium and Sarah-Quita Offringa (ARU-91)from Aruba win the Freestyle World Cup on Fuerteventura.
In a real thrilling superfinal Steven van Broeckhoven (B-72) defeated the
reigning champion Gollito Estredo (V-01). It was a 3:2 decision to the edge
and only 0,5 points difference in the judges’ assessment for van Broeckhoven
who already started in first place in Fuerteventura.
Having defended his second place against Kiri Thode (NB-61) he wins the
final of the double elimination against Gollito Estredo (winner of the
single elimination). With one victory each the pair would have to go
head-to-head one more time to declare who would be the overall event winner
In Double Elimination the Belgian won against light wind specialist Kiri
Thode (NB-61) before, who missed the early world champion title in
Freestyle. With this result Gollito Estredo squandered his chance of winning
the world cup again.
In the women’s fleet everything was working according to plan for
Sarah-Quita Offringa (ARU-91) from Aruba. She surely won the final against
Laure Treboux (SUI-4) from Switzerland. Yoli de Brendt (Venezuela, V-26)
defended her third place against Xenia Kessler (D-211) from Denmark.
It was the last event for women’s fleet this year. Sarah-Quita Offringa (20
years old) is world champion 2011 – already for the fourth time. Unbeatable
like she is in freestyle currently, she plans to make new steps into wavesailing.
